Andrew and I got our weeks flipped last week, so this week we will follow up on Sunday’s preaching from Job and consider the theme of “redemptive suffering”, that is to say, suffering that serve’s God’s purposes. This coming Sunday, Andrew will minister from Joshua 24, which we covered last week in our devotional series. Job is a challenging book based upon a historical character named Job. He was wealthy, righteous, and had a large family – in today’s terms he ‘had it all’ … until he didn’t. The book can be challenging to read: personally and interpretively. That said, this section of the bible’s ‘wisdom literature’ will reward faithful, considered, discerning reading.

To the parents: Young children in particular benefit from environments that feel secure and consistent. Even though we know the world we live within is often the vey opposite, we prepare them for such a challenging world by rooting them in foundational truths that provide the anchor our souls need during the various trials of life. Be discerning when discussing suffering with very young children. Ask the Lord to help you understand and best serve your child. At the end of the day, we want them to know that even in our deepest hurts we know our Redeemer lives and never leaves nor forsakes us!
