Remember, in His Word, God has:

  • Something to see – what does the text say
  • Something to understand – what does it mean
  • Something to apply – what does it mean to me
  • Something to praise – for what are you thankful?

(1) Through the Bible

Day 1: 2 Chronicles 19, 20Day 4: 2 Chronicles 25, 26
Day 2: 2 Chronicles 21, 22Day 5: 2 Chronicles 27, 28
Day 3: 2 Chronicles 23, 24Day 6: 2 Chronicles 29, 30

This week’s preaching passage is 2 Samuel 7. The chapter opens: “Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies.” David is firmly established as the King of Israel. His enemies vanquished, his palace established. He has even repatriated the Ark of the Covenant. David approaches the prophet Nathan and says it is not right that he is living in a palace while the Ark of the Covenant dwells in a lowly tent. The Lord responds to David saying it is he who will give rest to his people, make David’s name great, make a house for his name (the Lord’s), and establish an everlasting kingdom. This is what we refer to as the “Davidic Covenant”, and its significance to us cannot be underestimated.
