Remember, in His Word, God has:

  • Something to see – what does the text say
  • Something to understand – what does it mean
  • Something to apply – what does it mean to me
  • Something to praise – for what are you thankful?

(1) Through the Bible

Day 1: John 1Day 4: Jn 6-7
Day 2: Jn 2-3Day 5: Jn 8-9
Day 3: Jn 4-5Day 6: Jn 10-11

This Sunday the preaching text is from Luke 9:28-36 and the theme is Transfiguration. In this short, fascinating scene, Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up the mountain to pray. As Jesus prayed his appearance changed before his disciples and he appeared alongside Moses and Elijah. They were speaking of his imminent death. In life, both Moses and Elijah had significant encounters with God, but neither saw his fully glory nor his face. Here the radiant glory of Christ is on display. Before representations of the ‘Law and Prophets’ (Moses and Elijah), Christ’s disciples are drawn to the greater fulfillment of both as God says: “This is my Son, the Chosen One, listen to Him!” The scene echoes the identity announcement of Jesus’ baptism and points toward a radical new discipleship – we are to listen to him, but also points us toward our own ultimate transfiguration for “we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”
