As I prepared for last Sunday’s service and this week’s devotionals God’s many and varied promises have so greatly encouraged me. I believe all of God’s promises work in concert for the good of our lives and the outworking in them of godliness. However, I believe there are certain categories of promises that form the critically important task of helping us see God and ourselves rightly. Therefore, here are 10 fundamental promises to help guard your heart and mind in, and for, Christ. I know I may miss something that you feel is critical to you. If that is the case, send me an email and encourage me with another one of God’s great and precious promises! Here we go:

1) God’s Love

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

2) God’s Presence

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5; Hebrews 13:5)

3) God’s Redemption

We “are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:24)

4) God’s Ongoing Forgiveness

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

5) God’s Guaranteed Hope

“he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3b-5)

6) God’s Provision (He is For Us)

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

7) God Knows You Intimately

“For you formed my inward parts;

    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

    my soul knows it very well” (Psalm 139:13,14)

8) God Wants to Hear From You (Everything!)

“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

9) God’s Providence

-our various trials are temporary and purposeful

“In this you rejoice [our salvation], though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:6-7)

10) God’s Faithfulness

“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30)
