Remember, in His Word, God has:

  • Something to see – what does the text say
  • Something to understand – what does it mean
  • Something to apply – what does it mean to me
  • Something to praise – for what are you thankful?

(1) Through the Bible

Day 1: Romans 11-12Day 4: 1 Corinthians 1-2
Day 2: Rom 13-14Day 5: 1 Cor 3-4
Day 3: Rom 15-16Day 6: 1 Cor 5-6

This Sunday the preaching theme is Prayer and the text is John 17.This chapter is known as the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. If you like structuring things, consider verses 1-5 as Christ and his Father; verses 6-19 as Christ and his Disciples; and verses 20-26 as Christ and his Church. Throughout we get a front row seat to our Great High Priest praying to the Father. A look behind the veil, so to speak. In the Old Testament, the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement to atone for the sins of the people. Here we have Jesus preparing himself to be our mediating sacrifice, and then interceding for those whom the Father has given. What a precious passage this is!

This is another week wherein I do not want to break the text into a smaller unit for the sake of our early readers. Therefore, both the “Key Passages” and “Key Verses” will cover the whole of chapter 17 in order to get the whole of this wonderful prayer of Jesus. If too much for your “early reader” please read it with them.
