Remember, in His Word, God has:

  • Something to see – what does the text say
  • Something to understand – what does it mean
  • Something to apply – what does it mean to me
  • Something to praise – for what are you thankful?

(1) Through the Bible

Day 1: Luke 13-14Day 4: Luke 19-20
Day 2: Luke 15-16Day 5: Luke 21-22
Day 3: Luke 17-18Day 6: Luke 23-24

This Sunday the preaching text is from John 6 and the theme is The New Exodus. If you wish to do some interesting reading, consider the many parallels John presents to his readers to convince them that Jesus is the Christ. Read Exodus chapters 12 to 17 and compare with John 6. In John 6:4-15, Jesus is our passover (see Ex 12-13). In verses 16-21 Jesus crosses the see with his troubled disciples (Ex 14-15). In verses 22-40 Jesus is presented as the true bread from heaven, the “bread of life” (Ex 16). In verses 41-58 we read of complaints against Jesus just as Israel complained about their “bread”, but Jesus warned they must eat of this bread to receive eternal life (Ex 16:7-8). If we dip a little into John 7 we see a parallel with Exodus 17 when Israel complained about the lack of water because Jesus says he provides “rivers of living water” to those who are thirsty and willing to drink of him (John 7:37).

“But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself.
